Learning Curves

Learning Curves

I’m not a very tech savvy person and I’d much rather be outside with my horses…but sometimes it’s just time to bite the bullet and see what the next step leads to. For me, for now, it’s lead to a new website using a new program and new web hosting service. That means almost starting over from scratch and being a bit uncomfortable for a while.

My first website was done on Apple’s iWeb program. It was very simple to do and to use. With a little geek help from the techs at the Apple store it was up and going…for about 3 years. I was quite happy with it and with myself for pulling it together with so little help. The program came on my Mac, so it was free. I’d heard you could use DropBox’s Public Folder as a host, so that was free. With a little help from my sister, I’d registered my domain name, and that didn’t cost much. So for about 3 years, I had a web presence for only the cost of the domain name. Not bad for an older lady with a fledgling business…until. Until DropBox sent out announcements saying they were doing away with that option…and Apple quit updating and providing iWeb.

So as the case often is…it was good until it wasn’t anymore.

It took a while, actually another year or two until I was willing to stretch and attempt a rebuild on a new web program and sign up for a new web hosting service. In order to get to that point I purchased several Udemy web courses only to get frustrated trying to see what they were referring to on their computer screen while watching it on my iPad…not an easy transition. I’d suggest watching them on a big screen TV if you try it! Finally, my sister advised me there was an opportunity to get a free ebook, 1 Hour WordPress 2018. Another freebie! Yea! After reading the first 20 or so pages in it…several times I got brave enough to actually start the process,

Someone told me one time, “it depends on how badly you want something to be different. If you want it bad enough, you’ll do it. If you want it badly enough you’ll change your priorities and just do it.” It’s taken some time. My priorities shifted and it got higher on my list. The learning curve had to be addressed. The website is far from finished still. It may never be finished because I hope to keep updating it and improving it as I learn more. But I’m back online now. I’ve exhaled a few times as I feel much more accomplished this week than I did last week! Learning Curves, priorities and challenges… it takes all these and more to succeed. But each little accomplishment brings with it a little joy and satisfaction of knowing that I can do a little more than I thought I could! …You can, too. What’s your next learning curve?
